Introduction

Beetle, an Arduino Mini development board, is as small as a coin but packs a powerful 32U4 core, fully compatible with Leonardo. Its miniature size and generously-spaced soldering pads make it exceptionally suitable for DIY projects, especially wearable creations.

While commonly used Arduino boards like the UNO, Leonardo, and Nano offer a greater number of pins, their larger footprint proves inconvenient for integration into projects. Additionally, the small soldering pads on boards like the Nano are challenging to work with, often leading to unreliable connections.

Wide-Spacing Soldering Pads, Versatile Interfaces

Beetle microcontroller addresses these limitations by maintaining a minimal footprint and employing a wide-spacing design for its soldering pads, ensuring easy and reliable soldering. This makes it remarkably convenient to embed into your projects. Moreover, the V-shaped soldering pad design allows for wire connections to be securely twisted and sewn onto fabrics, eliminating the need for soldering.

Despite its small size, Beetle still manages to incorporate 3 independent digital ports, 3 independent analog ports (which can also function as digital ports), 1 set of UART interface, 1 set of I2C interface, 4 compatible PWM ports, and 2 power ports.

With its compact size, ample soldering pads, and versatile interfaces, these design features are instrumental in enhancing your ability to create and develop fascinating projects.

It comes with Atmel ATmega32U4 (datasheet) @16MHz clock time and has expanded amounts of interfaces: 10 digital pins, 5 analog pins, and 4 pwn pins. To further make it user-friendly, it is compatible with Micro USB so that direct programming and testing is no longer a headache. Select "Arduino Leonardo (tools - board - Arduino Leonardo in Arduino IDE), the ATmega32U4 comes pre burned with a bootloader that allows you to upload any new code that is applicable to Arduino Leonardo.

Low-Cost but Powerful

Being the smallest model compatible with DFRobot and Arduino Leonardo, the Beetle boasts similar powerful capabilities. It aims to address the concerns of low-cost controllers, ensuring user-friendliness, and providing an affordable solution for one-time projects such as DIY endeavors, workshops, gift projects, electronic textiles, and educational purposes.

For students and creators who may not bear the burden of excessive hardware acquisition costs, the Beetle serves as an excellent solution. Its compact size and simplified interfaces offer sufficient functionality while maintaining a low cost, making it highly suitable for educational settings and prototype designs, particularly in situations where budgets are limited.

User-Friendly

Beetle MCU is fully compatible with the Arduino Leonardo board. It derives its core notion from minimalism without compromising functionality.

As the DFRobot smallest board compatible with Arduino Leonardo, it enjoys similar powerful functionalities. Beetle aims to solve problems of the low-cost controller, ease-of-using properly, and to provide a low-cost solution for disposable projects, such as DIY projects, workshops, gift projects, E-Textiles, and educational. For students and makers who can not afford too much hardware purchasing, Beetle can be a great solution for them.

DFRobot released it's a new product called Beetle BLE - The Smallest Board with Bluetooth 4.0 (BLE), which is a board based on Arduino Uno. It is probably the smallest Arduino-Compatible board in the market.

News: Undergraduate students at the Utah State University (USU) have successfully launched the first Pi-powered satellite into orbit. The GASPACS CubeSat, which was sponsored by NASA, features a Raspberry Pi Zero computer, a second-gen Pi Camera Module, and a DFRobot Beetle microcontroller to facilitate basic tasks at a low price.
